Beagle

Beagles are by far the most popular breed of hound. According to the American Kennel Club, they are the 8th most popular breed of dog in America, out of 201 recognized breeds. Perhaps this is because they are family-friendly, as they generally get along well with other dogs. They are also extremely tolerant of and are an ideal size for young children. Beagles are probably one of the easier breeds of hounds to train when it comes to basic commands, like “sit” and “stay”, but remember, they are still bred to hunt, so they can be independent when they want to be, like when they catch a scent of an animal. And don’t underestimate their bark either. Once it corners his quarry, a beagle will be sure to let you know by his wonderful singing voice. Because of this, apartment owners are a no-go. Beagles also need plenty of daily exercise. So an ideal owner for these guys would be one that has a large, fenced-in yard. According to the National Beagle Club of America, Inc., there are reports of small hounds that were used to hunt rabbits in 400 B.C. in Greece and 200 A.D. in Britain. The modern Beagle breed comes to the U.S. from England and was popularized by the mid-1900s.
